Curious Play is similar to a nursery school except that there are fewer children in only one group in a homely surrounding. This is called "family grouping" which means that children of different ages (between about 2-5 years old) play together. The value of this type of grouping is that the bigger children learn how to be tolerant of smaller children, and in turn the younger ones gain experiences and skills from the older ones by watching them and imitating them. There are so many aspects of development in toddlers, so I have designed a program to try and stimulate the children in every area. I prepare and arrange a series of activity daily (each with an educational purpose) in a specially created environment (a peaceful setting) rather than only giving formal lessons.
I believe that children learn more by experiencing things in their environment than just listening to words. The children can choose their own activities most of the time and it is this element of choice and spontaneity that develops concentration and the desire to learn more (this prepares them intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally for primary school and life). I try to give their natural potential a helping hand and encourage them to do activities they enjoy, for as long as they want, which will help build on their interests and also encourage them to tackle new tasks.
Ons volg wel 'n formele kleuterskool- (opvoedkundige-) program, maar op 'n informele basis. Roetine is belangrik vir kleuters (dit gee hulle 'n mate van sekuriteit), maar die dagprogram moet buigsaam wees om by die kinders se gemoedstoestand, asook weersomstandighede of spesiale geleenthede, soos bv. 'n verjaarsdag, aan te pas.
